He expounded on the importance of meditation in daily activities such as walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, emphasizing that meditation should not only occur during sitting practice but that mindful awareness should be maintained in all actions. He explained that recognizing the empty nature of mind's essence is the ultimate purpose of meditation, and reminded practitioners of the need to balance study, contemplation, and practice—Western Buddhists should strengthen their foundation in study and contemplation, while Eastern Buddhists need more stable and sustained practice.
