Buddhism: Not About Austerity

Curious about the relationship between Buddhism and wealth? Many people think that practicing Buddhism means living in poverty, but Buddhism actually emphasizes the Middle Way: neither being overly attached to poverty nor excessively craving riches. Historically, Anathapindika, who possessed immense wealth, used it to make offerings to the Buddha and help sentient beings—this was the wise application of resources. The key lies in one's attitude and virtuous actions, not in the amount of money one has. Practicing Buddhism is not about escaping the world, but about giving the mind refuge and making life more complete. It also guides us to perform good deeds, accumulate merit, and develop wisdom, benefiting both ourselves and others. Having blessings and wealth can also be the mark of a good practitioner.
